Bullying Policy

Lincoln staff are committed to ensuring all students have a safe learning environment. Bullying causes pain and stress to students and is never justified or excusable as “just teasing” or “just playing.”

Bullying is specific and defined as follows: Bullying is the use of coercion or intimidation to obtain control over another person or to cause physical, mental or emotional harm to another person. Bullying can occur through written, verbal or electronically transmitted expression or by means of a physical act or gesture.

Bullying has no place at Lincoln or between Lincoln students at any time. Our bullying policy applies to all interactions between Lincoln students. Research shows that bullying behavior can be prevented when adults respond quickly and consistently, which you will see as part of our Bullying Intervention Procedures. More information about bullying can be found here: https://www.stopbullying.gov

Drop Off and Pick Up

Lincoln’s school hours run from 8:10am-3:10pm.

7:50a.m. Students may enter the building to eat free breakfast in the cafe. There is no supervision prior to that time. Students may play on the blacktop prior to the first bell, but must be supervised by an adult.

8:10 a.m. Students may enter the building when the bell rings at their designated doors. Please check with your child’s teacher on which doors students should enter in the morning.

8:20am School begins. Students who arrive after 8:20am will need to get a late pass from the office.

Lincoln’s doors remain locked during school hours. All visitors must be admitted through the front door.

3:10 p.m. Students should be picked up at their designated location. Please check with your child’s teacher for their class’s pick-up location.

Emergency Communication Protocol

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our utmost priority. Lincoln follows the Emergency Protocols put forth by the DPS Safety team. We prioritize preparedness and mental health. We host regular drills to practice emergency responses with staff and students alike, while striving to maintain clear, reassuring communication.

More information and languages can be found at the DPS Safety website.

Inclement Weather

The decision to delay or close school is made by the superintendent. DPS is committed to informing families about school closures or delays as early as possible – with the goal to make the call by 5 a.m. Click here for more information about how these decisions are made.

Check out the DPS website for more detailed information on the following:

“Weather Delay” is a 2 hour start-time delay:

  • School begins 2 hours later than normal (10:50am)
  • All bus pickups will be 2 hours later than normal
  • ECE3 may be canceled
  • Breakfast will still be served to students
  • School will release at the normal time

If you need assistance during weather delays, please contact Ms. Emily, emily_clark@dpsk12.org.

Remaining Open During Severe Weather:

  • The district monitors weather throughout the day. Early dismissal is possible if safety is a concern.
  • After-school activities may be canceled
  • Bus run the same route; services may be modified

Weather Closure:

  • Transportation will not run any buses
  • All after-school activities are canceled

Please make the necessary plans for the care of your student in the event that school is canceled.

No Homework Policy

In the fall of 2019, Lincoln staff, with guidance from the PTSA and CSC, moved to become officially a no-homework school. The decision was rooted in our collective teaching expertise, as well as research and data on the subject. We strongly believe the most important academic learning is done during the day, in the prepared classroom environment. The end of the school day is a signal to students that their school work is complete and it is time for enrichment, nourishment and regeneration.
