Dear Lincoln Friends and Families:

We are committed to letting you know about incidents that affect our school and our community. Last week, students and families at Hamilton Middle School reported that a man in a white car with red letters drove that said “DPS” approached students and offered them rides to the bus stop. One child did get in the van, while the others denied the ride and reported the activity to school officials. All children are safe. A vehicle matching this description was also seen earlier this week in the Platte Park area.

On both days, officials at Hamilton notified Denver police and the DPS Department of Safety. DPS and Law enforcement are investigating. Police recommend that, if you happen to see a vehicle of similar description and can safely do so, try to get the license plate number and call the non-emergency police number 720-913-2000. Please know that, DPS Transportation Services does not provide this type of service to students.

Please take this chance to talk with your child about contacting an adult immediately if they ever feel unsafe, confirming after-school arrangements together, and showing your child how to dial 911 from a cell phone or public phone if he or she ever feels unsafe.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns. Thanks for your communal effort to keep our kids safe!
