Principal's Desk

Dear Lincoln Families and Community,

As the new principal of Lincoln Elementary School, I welcome you to our family style school community.

Lincoln offers two exciting instructional programs.  The Traditional program provides instruction for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  The Montessori program offers instruction for children from 3 years old through 4th grade.  As our students continue through this program, we will expand until we include 6th grade.

Lincoln is a High Achieving School.  Our School Accountability Rating for 2006-2007 school year was high for the third year in a row, with significant growth.

Our two outstanding educational programs offer parents choices:  A Traditional Strand and a Montessori strand.  Students in each program work toward achieving District and State Standards. Students in both programs have opportunities to participate in Physical Education, Music, *Computer Lab, Art, and Library.  Students who are identified as gifted and talented or who exhibit learning disabilities receive extra support from certified staff members.  Students who speak languages other than English also receive support from an English Language Acquisition teacher to enhance language skills.  Each program has certificated, experienced, talented, and fabulous teachers.

*(Some of the younger students do not participate in the Computer programs in classrooms because the use is not age appropriate for the very young)

The Traditional program offers a half day Kindergarten, a first and second grade multi-age class, a third and fourth grade multi-age class, and a fourth and fifth grade multi-age class.  The traditional program follows the Denver Public Schools Curriculum which includes intensive reading instruction, writing, math, science and social studies.  Students use textbooks, pencil and paper tasks, and engage in many hands on activities to encourage students to stretch their thinking and engage in problem solving.

The Montessori program has three levels of Montessori programming.  There are three Primary classes for students ages three, four, and five.  There are two Lower Elementary classes currently serving students who are ages six, and seven.  There is one Upper Elementary class serving students who are eight and nine.  We will continue to expand this program until we offer classes through eleven year olds. The Montessori program begins with young children learning to be independent learners through exploration using an internationally developed curriculum based on the teachings of Maria Montessori.  Student learning is matched to the social development of the child and lessons are integrated.  Students work in an uninterrupted work cycle in multi-age settings.

Before and Afterschool Day Care is available on site.  There is also afternoon Day Care for students who are three and four years old in the Montessori classes.  This service is provided by Kaleidoscope Corner.  Contact the Kaleidoscope Corner office for fee information.

Lincoln is a great place for students to learn.

It's also a great place to work.

Come and visit our school anytime.
