Nancy Gregorio- Physical Education

Have fun getting fit!!!!!

In Physical Education class children are having a great time – getting exercise, learning skills, finding success, gaining self-esteem and learning how to live healthy and happy lives. Lincoln kids get 30 action-filled minutes of P.E./Dance everyday.  Here are some of the activities “gym” classes have been doing so far:

Soccer, parachutes, hula hoops, dances from around the world, capture the flag,

stilts, frisbees, jump bands, juggling scarves, lacrosse, golf, football skills, basketball skills, softball skills, relays,

jump rope, “them bones,” (learning about human anatomy), the Turkey Trot (mile run), physical fitness, gymnastics, hip hop, flying turtles and much more.

Latest report from Newsweek

“Physical activity is good not only for the heart, but also for the brain, feeding it glucose and oxygen, and increasing nerve connections, all of which makes it easier for children of all ages to learn.  Numerous studies show that children who exercise do better in school.”  Newsweek

Physical Education Goals:

·        To actively engage children in sufficient amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity to improve and maintain their physical health and well-being.

·        To encourage children to apply the skills and knowledge they acquire during class and to seek opportunities to be active outside of school as part of a healthy lifestyle.

·        To provide instructional units planned to develop motor, personal, and social skills.

We have fun integrating academic subjects with P.E. too...such as verb games, monster math, history challenges, science dances and literacy dances.

We Need Volunteers

Everyday during Lunch Recess, children have the opportunity to run laps around our beautiful Lincoln track.  The program is called "Lincoln Laps."  We need volunteers to record laps for the children.  Please call Ms. Gregorio at 720-424-6007 if you would like to help or e-mail her at nancy_gregorio@dpsk12.org

Lunch Recess is from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.
