Programs

                                  SCHOOL:

Lincoln has two outstanding educational programs that offer parents choices:  A Traditional and a Montessori program.  Students in each program work toward achieving District and State Standards. Students in both programs have opportunities to participate in Physical Education, Music, *Computer Lab, Art, and Library.  Students who are identified as gifted and talented or who exhibit learning disabilities receive extra support from certified staff members.  Students who speak languages other than English also receive support from an Engish Language Acquisition teacher to enhance language skills.  Each program has certificated, experienced, talented, and fabulous teachers.

*(Some of the younger students do not participate in the Computer programs in classrooms because the use is not age appropriate for the very young)

TRADITIONAL ELEMENTARY

The Traditional program(strand) offers a half day Kindergarten that is paired with full day first grade, a first and second grade multi-age class, a third and fourth grade multi-age class, and a fourth and fifth grade multi-age class.  The traditional program follows the Denver Public Schools Curriculum which includes intensive reading instruction, writing, math, science and social studies.  Students use textbooks, pencil and paper tasks, small and large group instruction, center activities and engage in many hands on activities to encourage students to

stretch their thinking and engage in problem solving.

MONTESSORI

The Montessori program has three levels of Montessori programming.  There are three Primary classes for students ages three, four, and five.  There are two Lower Elementary Classes, for students who are ages six and seven.  We also have one Upper Elementary class for students ages eight and nine.  The program will continue to expand until it serves students through age eleven.  The Montessori program begins with the young children learning to be independent learners by exploration using an internationally developed curriculum based on the teachings of Maria Montessori.  Students learning is matched to the social development of the child and lessons are integrated.  Students work in uninterrupted work cycle in multi-age settings. The very young children do the majority of their work in their classroom in a situation called "The Prepared Environment", working on activities of their own choice at their own pace.  They seldom go outside of the school for activities such as excursions.   Students in the Elementary program do venture out into the community beyond the four walls to enhance their learning.  At the Elementary Level students there is more integration of the arts, sciences, geography, history and language.  Students learn about the origins of the earth, life, human communities, and modern history.
